Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Compulsive Hoarding & Trichotillomania

NOTE: The distribution refers to a collection of studies organized by disorder or theme (see FAQ).  It is important to note that not all individuals in the distribution have DNA available.

Given the major public health implications of identifying genes responsible for severe neuropsychiatric disorders, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) has funded a Human Genetics Initiative. The goal of this Initiative is to establish a national resource of clinical data and biomaterials that are collected from individuals with autism, schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and other mental disorders.

Study 16 - The Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Collaborative Genetic study was funded by NIMH Grant Number 2R01MH050214-05A2. The prinicipal investigator is Gerald Nestadt, M.B.B.Ch., M.P.H. (gnestadt@jhmi.edu). The study includes the following collaborative centers:

Johns Hopkins University, Gerald Nestadt, M.B.B.Ch., M.P.H.
Brown University, Benjamin Greenberg, M.D., Ph.D.
Columbia University, Abby Fyer, M.D.
Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital, Scott Rauch, M.D.
NIMH, Dennis Murphy, M.D.
UCLA, James McCracken, M.D.

Study 66 - The OCD Collaborative Genetics Association Study (OCGAS) is a collaborative research study including investigators at six sites in the United States and was funded by NIMH Grants R10 MH071507, R01 MH079494, R01 MH079487, R01 MH079489, and R01 MH079494. The prinicipal investigator is Gerald Nestadt, M.B.B.Ch., M.P.H. (gnestadt@jhmi.edu). The study includes the following collaborative centers:

Johns Hopkins University, Gerald Nestadt, M.B.B.Ch., M.P.H.
Brown University, Benjamin Greenberg, M.D., Ph.D.
Columbia University, Abby Fyer, M.D.
Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital, Dan Geller, M.D.
NIMH, Dennis Murphy, M.D.
UCLA, James McCracken, M.D.
University of Southern California, James Knowles, M.D., Ph.D.

Study 93 - The Compulsive Hoarding study was funded by NIMH grant R21 MH087748.  The principal investigator is Carol A. Mathews, M.D. and the co-investigators included Daniel Mathalon, M.D., Ph.D., R. Scott Mackin, Ph.D., and Kevin Delucchi, Ph.D., all from UCSF.

Study 134 - The Trichotillomania study was performed using data from the Genetics Study of Trichotillomania (PI: Nancy Keuthen, Ph.D.) funded by the Trichotillomania Learning Center and the Family Study of Trichotillomania (PIs: Nancy Keuthen, Ph.D.; David Pauls, Ph.D.) funded by the Greater Kansas City Foundation.  Both of these studies were conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA.

Data and biomaterials (cell lines and DNA samples) are available to qualified investigators who study the genetics of obsessive-compulsive disorder, and may be accessed by following a set of instructions.

OCD Dist. 2.0 - May 2013
